Latvia maintains a high level of positive perception among Ukrainians: in August 2026 68.3% of respondents have a positive attitude towards the country, while only 3.9% have a negative one. Compared to March, the share of positive assessments has slightly decreased, however, the country still belongs to the group of states with the highest level of public favorability, reports the information-analytical center Experts Club.
According to the results of the August survey, 39.7% of Ukrainians have a completely positive attitude towards Latvia, and 28.6% have mostly positive. 26.6% of respondents hold a neutral position. 2.5% evaluate the country mostly negatively, 1.4% completely negatively, and another 1.2% could not decide.
The balance of positive and negative assessments is plus 64.4 percentage points. Thus, the positive attitude towards Latvia is more than 17 times higher than the negative one. Overall, the countries of Northern Europe and the Baltics in the August wave of the study retained some of the highest indicators of positive attitude among Ukrainians.
In March 2026 71.6% of respondents had a positive attitude towards Latvia: 42.4% completely positive and 29.1% mostly positive. 24.5% of respondents held a neutral position, negative assessments were around 2.6%, and another 1.4% could not decide.
Thus, over five months, the share of positive assessments decreased by 3.3 p.p. — from 71.6% to 68.3%. The negative segment increased by approximately 1.3 p.p., and the neutral segment by 2.1 p.p. The balance of positive and negative attitudes accordingly decreased from approximately plus 69 to plus 64.4 p.p.
Meanwhile, the largest change occurred among respondents with the most pronounced positive position: the share of completely positive assessments decreased from 42.4% to 39.7%, while mostly positive assessments remained close to the previous level — 29.1% in March and 28.6% in August.
In annual terms, the overall picture also remains stable. In August 2025 72.7% of Ukrainians evaluated Latvia positively, and 5.3% negatively. That is, the current share of positive responses is slightly lower than a year ago, but the negative segment also remains smaller.
Director of the research company Active Group Oleksandr Pozniy, commenting on the results of the previous wave regarding Latvia, associated the high level of public support with the consistency of the country's interaction with Ukraine.
"Ukrainians in general can very well distinguish countries that demonstrate consistent support for Ukraine. At the same time, the level of positive attitude is formed not only by political statements but also by specific actions that people can feel. That is why even small countries can have a very strong positive image," noted Pozniy.
The new wave of the study demonstrates some softening of positive assessments of Latvia, but not a fundamental change in public perception. More than two-thirds of Ukrainians continue to have a positive attitude towards the country, while the share of negative responses does not reach 4%.
The survey was conducted in August 2026 by the method of online self-completion of questionnaires in the SunFlowerSociology panel among 800 citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and older. The maximum theoretical error for indicators at the level of 50% is ±3.5 p.p.
