As reported by Open4Business, as of 27 October 2026 Ukrainian agrarians harvested 7.89 million tons of corn from an area of 1.33 million ha, which is 23.9% less than as of 31 October of the previous year, according to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to the ministry, corn harvesting was carried out on 29% of the projected area. The average yield is 59.5 centners/ha compared to 61.5 centners/ha last year, which corresponds to a decrease of approximately 3.3%.
In 2025, as of 31 October, agrarians had already harvested 10.36 million tons of corn from 1.68 million ha.
Thus, the current lag in gross harvest is primarily due to a smaller area on which harvesting was carried out, not just a decrease in yield.
The area of threshed corn in 2026 is currently 21.3% less than the figure for the previous year, provided for comparison.
Meanwhile, over the past week, the pace of harvesting has significantly accelerated. The gross harvest of corn increased from 5.4 million to 7.9 million tons, that is, by approximately 2.5 million tons.
Despite the acceleration of work, a significant portion of the harvest remains in the fields. By the end of October, agrarians are expected to harvest approximately 71% of the projected area of corn.
Therefore, it is premature to draw final conclusions about the gross production of this crop based on interim statistics.
Maize is one of Ukraine's main export agricultural crops and an important raw material for the compound feed industry, starch production and other processing directions.
The volume of its production affects the export potential of the agricultural sector, the loading of transport infrastructure and the supply of grain in the domestic market.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food also reported that the total harvest of cereals and pulses in Ukraine reached 41.7 million tonnes from 72% of the projected area.
Meanwhile, the harvesting of wheat, barley and peas has been fully completed. Their gross harvests exceed last year's figures by 15.2%, 23.2% and 26.2%, respectively.
