Sunflower harvest in Ukraine rises 17.5%, rapeseed harvest 17.4%

Ukrainian agrarians as of 27 October 2026 gathered 16.91 million tonnes of major oilseeds, including sunflower, soybeans, and rapeseed, which is approximately 11.7% higher than the figure for the same date last year. Meanwhile, sunflower and rapeseed production increased, while the total soybean harvest decreased, according to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The largest volume among oilseeds is accounted for by sunflower, of which 9.83 million tonnes have been gathered as of the reporting date from an area of 4.44 million ha, or 85 % of the projected area.

Compared to the figure for 31 October 2025, the sunflower harvest increased by 17.5%, or approximately 1.46 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, the harvested area has remained virtually unchanged, indicating the decisive role of increased yield.

The average yield of sunflower reached 22.1 centners/ha compared to 18.8 centners/ha last year, increasing by 17.4%.

Ukraine has also completed the harvest of winter and spring rapeseed. The total harvest amounted to 3.90 million tonnes from an area of 1.33 million ha.

Compared to last year's figure of 3.32 million tonnes, rapeseed production increased by 17.4%.

The average yield increased from 26.0 to 29.3 centners per hectare, or by 12.7%, while the harvested area grew by 4.2%.

The situation was different on the soybean market.

As of 27 October, farmers harvested 3.18 million tonnes of soybeans from an area of 1.47 million hectares, which is 91% of the projected area.

For comparison: as of 31 October of last year, 3.94 million tonnes of soy had been harvested.

Thus, the current gross harvest is 19.2% lower than last year's figure. The reduction is linked to both a decrease in the harvested area by 12.8% and a drop in the average yield by 7.3%, to 21.7 centners per hectare.

Despite the positive dynamics of sunflower and rapeseed, the results of soybean harvesting indicate uneven development of the Ukrainian market for oilseeds.

Sunflower remains the main raw material for the Ukrainian oil and fat industry. Increasing its production potentially creates additional opportunities for loading processing enterprises and exporting sunflower oil.

Rapeseed and soybeans are also important export crops and are used in the production of vegetable oils, feed components, and raw materials for biodiesel.

In the meantime, the final figures for sunflower and soybeans will be determined after the completion of the harvest campaign.
