The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine decided to increase the discount rate from 14.5% to 15.5% per annum. The decision comes into effect from the next business day.
According to the chairman of the NBU, this decision is aimed at reducing inflationary pressure, which remains elevated against the background of rising energy costs and logistical constraints.
Most analysts expected such a move, given the latest data on consumer prices. The consumer price index in August amounted to 8.2% in annual terms, which is lower than the peak values, but still above the target range of the NBU.
