The positive attitude of Ukrainians towards the Czech Republic has decreased to 61.3% - study

The Czech Republic maintains a high level of positive perception among Ukrainians, although in August 2026 the share of favorable assessments decreased compared to March. 61.3% of respondents have a positive attitude towards the country, 5.1% have a negative attitude, while almost a third of respondents take a neutral position, reports the information and analytical center Experts Club.

According to the results of the August survey, 18.8% of Ukrainians have a completely positive attitude towards the Czech Republic, mostly positive — 42.5%. 32.1% of respondents chose a neutral position. For the most part, 4.1% evaluate the country negatively, 1% completely negatively, another 1.6% could not decide.

The balance of positive and negative evaluations is plus 56.2 percentage points. This is the highest indicator among the Central and Eastern European countries represented in the study. After the Czech Republic, this regional group includes Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

Compared to the previous wave the survey of attitudes towards the Czech Republic has slightly deteriorated. In March 2026, 23.3% of respondents rated the country completely positively, 44.1% mostly positively, that is, the total share of positive responses was 67.4%. 28.2% were neutral, about 3% were negative.

Thus, in five months, the share of positive evaluations decreased by 6.1 percentage points. — from 67.4% to 61.3%. There were approximately 2.1 percentage points of negative responses. more, and neutral ones - by 3.9 percentage points. The balance of positive and negative attitudes, respectively, decreased from approximately plus 64.4 percentage points. to plus 56.2 percentage points.

At the same time, the changes do not mean a fundamental revision of the attitude of Ukrainians towards the Czech Republic. Positive evaluations outweigh negative ones by more than 12 times, and the main flow of responses took place in the direction of a neutral position. The Czech Republic also remains significantly higher than most other states of Central and Eastern Europe in terms of the balance of public perception.

The founder of the Experts Club information and analytical center, Candidate of Economic Sciences Maksym Urakin, commenting on the results of a previous study on the Czech Republic, linked the high level of positive attitude to the nature of bilateral relations.

"The positive attitude of Ukrainians towards the Czech Republic is explained not only by historical proximity, but also by Prague's active support for Ukraine. At the same time, economic relations between the countries are characterized by a significant imbalance — imports from the Czech Republic significantly exceed exports. This creates prospects for the development of new areas of cooperation, especially in the fields of high technologies, investment projects, and energy," Urakin noted.

The new wave of research shows that the general positive image of the Czech Republic among Ukrainians remains, although its intensity has become lower than in the spring. At the same time, the increase in neutral ratings is more noticeable than the increase in negative ones.

The survey was conducted in August 2026 using the method of self-completion of online questionnaires in the SunFlowerSociology panel among 800 citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and over. The previous March wave also included 800 respondents; the sample was representative by age, gender, and region, and the maximum theoretical error for indicators at the 50% level was ±3.5 percentage points.
